How old are you?

From the August 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A question that persists for a lifetime from infancy to adulthood is "How old are you?" afterward to be rephrased, "How old was he?"

Why this perpetual curiosity about age?

There are circumstances where laws on the books require an individual to be of a certain age in order to vote, obtain a license to drive a car, apply for a job. Legal age indicates an attempt to measure a stage of maturity that should qualify one to make responsible decisions. Popular opinion denotes maturity as the point at which an individual has developed fully the powers of mind and body.
