Eleven years ago, while teaching in a public school, I fell and was severely injured. The doctors showed me the X-rays that indicated a broken bone in my neck and advised immediate surgery. It was requested that first I sign a document absolving them from responsibility in the event that I became paralyzed from the neck down as a result of the surgery. The pain and headache were almost unbearable, but I did not want to sign that paper.
The man who would become my husband was located by the school personnel and came to the emergency room of the hospital. He reminded me of my father's two sisters and the wonderful healings they had had through their religion—Christian Science. He suggested we turn to Christian Science now for healing, and I was in complete agreement.
Knowing very little about Science except its power to heal, we went to the Christian Science Reading Room we knew was in a local mall. We told the women who were working there that we had come for a healing. They lovingly showed us the listing of Christian Science practitioners in The Christian Science Journal.
