Church Bulletin Board

From the July 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Whether at a shopping mall, on a college campus, or in the foyer of a church, a bulletin board is a great place for people to share information. You can learn a lot about an active community from reading local bulletin boards. We hope you'll enjoy this bulletin board and feel encouraged to join in and share experiences.

At a recent business meeting the topic of "Church Bulletin Board" came up in discussion. We decided that we would like to share a couple of our experiences.

We have a small Reading Room on the upper floor of a downtown building. A lot of traffic goes by the building, but we are not very visible. We realize a ground-floor location would be preferable, but while we are in these premises we decided we should do what we could so people would know we are here. We had an attractive sidewalk sign made, and we put it out whenever we are open (with the permission of the city). Since we have been doing this our visitors have increased greatly We have had quite a number of people drop in just to see what we are all about. One particular visitor shared a lot of his own theological beliefs, which were quite different from our own. However, rather than keep saying that his beliefs were different from ours, I tried to understand what he was trying to tell me. . . . We had an interesting discussion and parted friends.
