As a lifelong student of Christian Science, I have experienced many healings through the study and application of Science. I have been healed of illnesses and injuries; supply has been met; relationships have been harmonized; and remarkable protection and safety have been experienced during an active career in athletics and as a combat infantryman during World War II. Some of these healings came about as the result of my own prayers, while others came about with assistance from my parents or from Christian Science practitioners.
A number of years ago I began to experience a painful condition that would occur intermittently. Each time the condition appeared I would turn to Christian Science and the difficulty would go away as the result of my own prayers or those of a Christian Science practitioner. After a number of years of this, the difficulty appeared once again, but this time the pain did not go away as in the past. I became discouraged and disappointed that I did not seem capable of permanently healing this condition. I finally asked my wife, who is not a student of Christian Science, to call an ambulance.
Never before had I turned to a physician or to medicine for relief from a physical difficulty. Even on this occasion I attributed the absence of healing not to a failure of Christian Science but to my insufficient understanding of Science. On the way to the hospital I affirmed to myself that once I got this trouble taken care of, I would redouble my efforts for growth in this Science and never have to face such a situation again.
