Do you hear well?

From the May 1990 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In my mail the other day came a notice that there would be a free electronic hearing test for those who wished to take advantage of it. Nowadays many promotions and appeals seem to be bombarding us with hypnotic suggestions of human deficiencies.

The student of Christian Science, however, is learning to be watchful and to heed daily the counsel that Paul gave to the Romans: "Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Rom. 12:2. It is here that Christian Science sends out its far-reaching light of divine understanding, showing the great truth that God is omnipotent, all-knowing Mind. It reveals man as spiritual, free, and immortal.

The Bible is replete with experiences of those who listened for the voice of God, consciously heard it, and obeyed it. One profound, but simply told, incident is that of the boy Samuel, whose listening and receptive ear heard God's voice at a time, we are told, when "there was no open vision." Through his obedience he answered the Lord in childlike trust, "Speak; for thy servant heareth." I Sam. 3:1, 10. Listening, as Samuel did, with a receptive heart prepares the listening ear to receive God's Word.
