Economy: the true view

From the May 1990 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A look at a dictionary gave me a different slant to the conventional view of what economy is. In addition to the expected definitions such as "the thrifty use of material resources," there is this little surprise: "God's plan or system for the government of the world."

Here is a broad hint to us all that we can uplift our sense of economy. As we understand more of the spiritual truths of Christian Science, we can expect to demonstrate them in evident sufficiency and even abundance. To students of the Bible it should not be surprising that basing thought on the divine government will solve problems that other methods will not.

Speaking of the need to leave material, sensual foundations and yield to spirituality, Mrs. Eddy affirms that "the superabundance of being is on the side of God, good."Science and Health, p. 201. To be "on the side of God" is to be on the side of His unfailing affluence, the love that never stops flowing, the gracious, spontaneous outpouring of good from infinite Spirit that knows no obstacle, no restriction, no shortfall.
