As a child I was considered quite frail and fearful. After I had married and was pregnant for the second time, I became very weak. Eventually I was confined to bed. Later premature twins were born. We secured help in the home over the next five years, since my strength failed to return, and I was unable to cope with housework and babies, too.
Various doctors were consulted. The fourth doctor informed me I had undulant fever and other complications. All dairy products were forbidden. Pills, vitamins, and weekly shots were prescribed. I experienced severe back pains, and one leg became considerably shorter than the other. Special arch supports and heel lifts were made for my shoes.
We moved when our twin sons were eleven years old. When my husband collapsed in our new home one day and was rushed to the hospital, I realized if I was now to help him, I needed to turn to Christian Science. I knew of Science because I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School a few times when I was ten years old. I asked one of my son's friends if there was a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, nearby. His reply was, "My mother attends." I called her, and she took me to church a number of times, since I had had to give up driving.
