From the February 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am very grateful that Christian Science has taught me I can turn to God in every need and know that my prayers will be answered. God is our Parent, friend, guide, and only physician. We have had many healings in our family that have proved the ever-availability of God's help.

When our older daughter was still a toddler, she suffered from chronic constipation. I prayed daily for her, affirming her true spiritual identity as a child of God. I acknowledged that every function of man's real being is under God's control. I considered the use of material remedies, but I knew she needed and deserved more than the temporary relief such material means would afford. I was convinced from the countless healings our family had experienced that I could trust God to bring complete and permanent freedom from this difficulty.

Several times a Christian Science practitioner was called when the condition did not change in spite of my own prayerful efforts. This always brought immediate and painless relief. The condition, however, kept returning. Finally I turned to God in deep humility and asked Him what I needed to know. A story in the Bible from I Kings came to thought. It concerned two women who came to King Solomon for judgment, both claiming to be the same child's mother. The king, in order to discern the true mother, commanded that the child be divided in two. The true mother, of course, refused to allow this to happen, and the child was restored to her.
