I am so grateful for the wonderful opportunities my husband and I have had to serve the Christian Science movement actively for the past twenty-five years. In 1965 a major newspaper article about Christian Science caused us to want to be personally involved in the work of the Church. My husband and I prayed very earnestly to be shown how we could be of help. He decided to leave the business world and apply for employment with The Mother Church. Within a few months we had rented our house in Texas and had moved to the East Coast. We both were so happy about the opportunity to help. Five years later I began sixteen happy years of work at the Christian Science Center. During this period, my husband became a Journal-listed Christian Science practitioner.
It would take too much space to tell of all the healings our family has experienced over the years, but they include those of migraine headaches, which had troubled my husband since childhood, and my own healing of an obstruction in my throat that had caused me to choke on even small bits of food for some time.
When our daughter was about five years old she experienced a loss of hearing. We worked diligently with a Christian Science practitioner, holding closely to the spiritual meaning of ears given in the Glossary of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which states: "Ears. Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding." The child was encouraged to pray for herself as she had been taught both at home and in the Christian Science Sunday School. The healing was quick, complete, and permanent.
