Some years ago when my wife and I were expecting our first child, my wife was, according to medical opinion, in a higher-risk group because of her age. But as we prayed before the birth, we never doubted that God was, is, and always will be the only Father-Mother, the one creator. Christian Science was helping us to understand that God is always in complete control, governing every function and action of the real man, made in His likeness. The birth was at home, and it was quick, painless, and calm for my wife. I too was able to remain calm, helpful, and supportive during that time.
This child has been a joy to us. I would like to share a couple of experiences of healing that our daughter has had in the last few years. When she was around two and a half years old, she became ill with a high fever and other serious symptoms. Both my wife and I prayed to see her as God had created her—as His perfect child. Sometimes it seems difficult during such times to separate the belief that one's child is a mortal from the spiritual fact that each one is in truth the perfect, complete idea of God, held in Mind eternally.
After a short period of time I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. She reminded me of our daughter's true likeness to God and affirmed how much God loves her. Not two minutes went by before our daughter exclaimed, "Ball." I walked over to her and detected no fever. She wanted to play ball. We did so for a while; she was completely healed.
