Testimonies of Healing

I am John's mother

From the March 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am John's mother. When the substitute nurse at John's school called, she was very concerned about his condition. She explained that John's nose was bleeding very heavily and that he was dizzy and had a headache. She was afraid that he had sustained a concussion and felt very strongly that he needed to see a doctor.

At that point I explained to her that we were Christian Scientists and relied on spiritual healing. I further explained that I would be calling a Christian Science practitioner to help John through prayer. I was able to speak with John briefly on the phone and reminded him that he was held in God's arms and could never fall out of them.

As I prayed during the drive to his school, I reaffirmed John's oneness with his Father-Mother God. The word accident is defined as "an event occurring by chance or from unknown causes"; since we are taught in Christian Science that God is the only cause and effect, I knew that there was nothing to be gained for John from this experience but what God gives, which is good. The following sentence from Science and Health was of great help: "Casting out evil and fear enables truth to outweigh error." I knew that John, as a child of God, is eternally cared for. There is no place for fear in God's kingdom, where there is truly nothing to fear.
