Why I continue to write for the periodicals

From the March 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Back in 1986, when I completed my term as an Associate Editor for the religious periodicals, at first I felt totally liberated. No more writing on demand—those nearly-every-week editorials that the Editors are required to write for The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science.

But then, after a few months, I realized that the requirement to write had not gone away. The demand had not really been made upon me by the editorial position. The demand comes from God, divine Love. As Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health, "Truth, Life, and Love are the only legitimate and eternal demands on man, and they are spiritual lawgivers, enforcing obedience through divine statutes." Science and Health, p. 184 I realized that it was my love for God and man—love that comes from God—that required me, and is still requiring me, to write for the periodicals.

If you have a deep love for God and man and wish to share Christian Science with others; if you have a heart's longing to communicate in writing; if you find yourself saying (perhaps while you are discussing a metaphysical concept with others), "Wouldn't that make a great idea for an article?" you can be sure that divine Love is nudging you to go forward and write.
