Last year, in a letter to Christian Science teachers and students associations, The Christian Science Board of Directors invited them to "share with the Clerk of The Mother Church the demonstrations you make individually or collectively in forging a pioneering path of relevance for church within your community." The replies have been so inspiring that we wanted to share a sampling with readers of the Journal.
"The most significant healing that has affected our community this last year started when one of our association members introduced an old friend of hers to Christian Science about five years ago. This lady had a very disabling back condition which had exhausted medical treatment. We gave her A Century of Christian Science Healing followed by a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. Recently a woman who had met this student for the first time for some years was so impressed by her improved health that she came to me to ask about my religion. This second woman's family—husband, two daughters, and a son—are beginning to take an interest in Christian Science as well."
"I feel as you do that both the Church of Christ, Scientist, and the practice of Christian Science should be outreaching. Locally, I'm giving out periodicals and copies of the Christian Science textbook to several cultures: Japanese, Chinese, Romanian, Russian. I've given fifteen textbooks to Chinese members of our community, many Christian Science Sentinels to them with the Chinese/English pamphlet 'Christian Science: What Is It?' A Russian family at the university has attended our church, received Science and Health, Sentinels and several copies of The ... Christian Science Monitor daily newspaper.
