A letter to a business colleague

From the February 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Not long ago, we received a copy of a letter that Mr. Forsyth, a British businessman—a student of Christian Science—sent to a colleague. The letter brings out the value of relying on the teachings of Christian Science in every facet of life—including the challenges so frequently faced in the everyday world of business.

Dear,

Following our telephone conversation this morning, I am, as promised, setting out below some of the ideas I have worked with recently to tackle the serious problems of recession we have been facing. I well know that it is not fashionable even to mention religion these days; nevertheless, if religion is worthwhile, it must be practical and not just an esoteric phenomenon. By practical, I mean that it must assist us in solving daily problems which beset us, be they those of human relationships, political unrest, sickness, death, supply, or whatever. Frankly, writing to you as one management consultant to another, and indeed as one engineer to another, I feel it's questionable whether anything less than a practical religion merits time, effort, and attention.
