How does God speak to us?

From the February 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Does God communicate in English? Spanish? German? French? Japanese? In Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy, a great spiritual thinker and a follower of Christ Jesus, whose prayers resulted in abundant, tangible evidence of God's healing presence and power, has written: "God is Spirit; therefore the language of Spirit must be, and is, spiritual....

"Ear hath not heard, nor hath lip spoken, the pure language of Spirit." Science and Health, p. 117.

Through prayerful communion with God we can hear and understand "the pure language of Spirit." The gospel accounts of Jesus' teachings and works make clear the importance of prayer. They show its powerful, healing results. Reminiscences of members of Mrs. Eddy's household record that she spent much time each day quietly communing with God, and reading from the Bible and from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health. Great revelations of spiritual truth came to her; and they can come to us too as we follow Jesus' example and commune with God, to whom "all things are possible," Matt. 19:26. and let our heart be filled with His revealed Word.
