Last Thanksgiving my family and I went for a hike near Granite Falls. After we had walked about a half-mile, I felt my knees were hurting quite a lot. All I could think about was a video I had watched in my physical education class that showed my teacher's knee surgery. I kept thinking that maybe something had gone wrong in my own knees.
Then I remembered one of my favorite hymns, which begins, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 304, words by Mary Baker Eddy). Two lines that really caught my attention and also seemed most appropriate for my situation were "I will listen for Thy voice, /Lest my footsteps stray." This made me realize that I had to listen to God's voice instead of what I had seen on the video. I continued walking and listening for God's voice.
My knees stopped hurting, and I went the rest of the way on the hike without any fear. I even ran the whole way back to the car!
