Don't you love to watch the sunrise and sunset? Think of the rotation of the earth, the revolution of the planets, the perfect order of the universe. We never doubt this sublime order will continue. The stars and planets don't wonder whether they will be where they are supposed to be. They just are. What a grand hint this is of the order of spiritual reality under the government of God!
Spirit, God, forever is, and manifests itself eternally, tirelessly, everywhere. Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Spirit and its formations are the only realities of being." Science and Health, p. 264.
Divine Spirit is the I am, filling all space. It is the all-knowing and omnipotent Mind, and man is Mind's spiritual idea, the reflection of Spirit. Each and every one of us is, in truth, God's reflection, the expression of Spirit. Spirit and its reflection is All.
As Life is Spirit, and man is Spirit's complete reflection, man expresses God's qualities now. We each, in our real being, express the all-knowing, omnipotent, omnipresent Mind—as effortlessly as the dawn arrives! The I am is fully expressed by man as His reflection. You are that man. So too is your neighbor.
Man acts only according to Spirit's direct impulsion. That impulsion is loving, and always morally sound. It can never injure another. It is governed by divine Love. Man is not subject to internal or external forces beyond his control, because there are no such forces in omnipresent, omnipotent Spirit. Nothing can exert an influence on Spirit or its reflection, whether it claims to be magnetic, repulsive, or fear-inducing. As the image and likeness of Spirit, man is spiritual, free from so-called laws of limitation and pressure—untouched by them. He is Godlike in every way. Right now.
Whatever needs to be taken care of in our experience will be when we feel and allow God's, Spirit's, perfect, orderly activity to operate in our consciousness. Man and the universe can act only in accord with Spirit's directing, as Spirit's manifestation. We need to yield humbly to this fact, following the Biblical counsel "Let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." James 1:4.
Science and Health states, "Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing else." So man is not subject to any material law, sense of fear, magnetic influence, personal will, or other supposed power outside Spirit's omnipresent omnipotence. The Christian Science textbook continues, "God's being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss." Science and Health, p. 481. Man, therefore, is free from fear, disease, or lack of any kind. He's free from sin and from every form of evil. As Christ Jesus proved, we can know this freedom and bliss as present reality. These qualities are ours at this moment to be recognized and demonstrated.
The sense of God's omnipotence is well conveyed in Psalms: "[God] spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast." Ps. 33:9. What power! What majesty! We can only stand in awe and joy at the coming of this perception to our consciousness. God simply is. His creation stands fast. Perfect. Complete. No good thing can ever be taken from it, or bad thing added to it. This is brought out in Ecclesiastes: "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it." Eccl. 3:14. The consciousness of this truth brings healing of any sense of lack or fear. It imparts a calm assurance that we are at one with God and complete in every detail. We can lack no good thing. And we can include no element unlike God, good. Nothing can be added to God's complete creation or taken from it.
A woman rang a Christian Scientist one day. She was very distressed about quite a range of things. She was worried about her family; everything was going wrong. The Scientist assured her that both she and her family were cared for and loved by God, who is Love itself, ever caring for every detail of His creation. When they had finished speaking, the verse from Ecclesiastes came to his thought. He saw clearly that no discord could be added to this woman's experience, nor could any good thing such as peace, joy, or freedom from fear be taken from her. She was ever the child of God. A few days later she reported that she was "on top of the world and that she and her family were doing much better."
Are those who practice Christian Science in the business of making mortal existence more comfortable, or attempting to use God's power to make their schemes and plans run smoothly according to their personal sense of what is right? No! But through the consecrated study and practice of this Science, the discords and the clamor of materialistic thinking are seen progressively as unreal and proved to be so. They are left behind as the dust, irrelevant, in proportion as the light of man's present perfection as Spirit's image dawns in consciousness as the only true state of being.
