Working from absolute perfection in prayer

From the July 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A little boy I know has a large and wonderful sense of God. He had his first visit to a Christian Science Sunday School when he was three. Afterward his mother was interested to know what he had learned in his first lesson. He told her he'd learned about God. "And what did you learn?" his mother asked him. Making a big wide gesture with his arms he said, "Reach up!"

With childlike simplicity this little one had expressed something fundamental. God, Spirit, is all around us, and when we reach up in thought, so to speak, and acknowledge this, we feel His nearness.

When someone is faced with a challenge, we may hear it said, "I don't know where to start." Start with God, with His absolute allness and perfection. Know that He is the only presence right now and always. Start with the absolute.
