Through the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner, my mother saw her baby son instantly healed of a physical ailment that an operation had not corrected, and she became seriously interested in this religion. We children attended the Christian Science Sunday School regularly, and Christian Science has been my way of life ever since—protecting me as a young girl from any temptation to drink or smoke, and guiding me to good friendships and a very happy and long-lasting marriage.
I have learned that healings resulting from prayer are not miracles but divinely natural proofs of our true relationship to our Father-Mother God. However, many times immediate healings have brought a sense of awe as well as a flood of gratitude.
For instance, at a party most of a kettle of boiling water was inadvertently poured onto my legs. Two thoughts instantly came to me—first, "I cannot be used as an instrument to take away the joy of these happy people." Second, "I have already proved through prayer the powerlessness of burns to harm me, and it is not necessary to solve the same problem more than once." There was absolutely no pain, and when the one who felt responsible for the incident insisted on looking at my legs, there was not a mark on them.
