Testimonies of Healing

Testimonies from the 1930s

From the April 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

... My attention was called to Christian Science through the healing of a four-year-old boy in our family who, in spite of the efforts of ten doctors, was declared to be dying of tubercular spinal meningitis. The last two consulting physicians said that the child had but an hour to live. As these men left the house, we were called to the telephone by a Christian Scientist, an old friend, who said that it was not too late to ask for Christian Science help, and told us of a practitioner in the neighborhood. Willing to try anything at such a time, we called for help. In less than an hour the little boy slept, and the fever was gone. Two weeks later he was up and dressed, and the healing was soon complete.

Shortly after this experience I was attacked by grippe and asked for help from Christian Science instead of the family physician. In thirty-six hours I was so entirely healed that I suddenly rose from my bed feeling in the best of health, and joined the family at dinner, much to their surprise. Since that day I have relied upon Christian Science.

About four years ago a very interesting healing came to me. A curious and unsightly growth had been increasing in size and ugliness until it was quite offensive to the eye. As it was on the middle finger of my left hand, I managed to conceal it much of the time, but one day I had occasion to go with a relative to a cancer specialist from whom she was to have treatment. As I helped to prepare her, the doctor saw the finger. He took my hand, examined it, and said that it was a skin cancer in bad condition and needed immediate and drastic treatment. I said that I did not want any help from him, since I was, as he knew, a Christian Scientist. In spite of this, he called the head nurse, and she corroborated what the doctor had said. They wanted to apply radium needles at once. Only by promising to return in two weeks if a cure could not be effected in my way, could I persuade them to let me go.
