THOUGHTS ON CHURCH

Ancient reminders will show the way ahead

From the June 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

West Ohio News

A Journal reader saw this item in the newspaper and sent it to us. We find its message thought-provoking for people of any church denomination.

As Our Culture faces a new millennium, we stand poised at an unprecedented critical crossroads. The prophet Jermiah had this to say about such a time: "When you find yourself standing in the crossroads, ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it, and find rest for your souls."

On the ancient paths, the people of God left certain reminders. Any time God acted in a particular place, people left memorial stones or boundary markers in those places, and the markers served as timeless reminders of how God had acted. They became marks of direction for the future journey.
