ANNUAL MEETING 2000

". . . till the whole was leavened"

From the July 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Annual Meeting of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, was held in Boston on Monday, June 5. At 1:30 on a cool, sunny afternoon, the outgoing President, Jean Stark Hebenstreit, C.S.B., of Kansas City, Missouri, greeted those gathered in The Mother Church Extension in Boston and everyone watching and listening live on the World Wide Web. She mentioned that the special evening program on Mary Baker Eddy would also be "video-streamed" live on the Internet. [A report on that program will be published in the August issue of The Christian Science Journal.]

Mrs. Hebenstreit said, "The first thing you'll see this afternoon is a video that was taped in the Holy Land and in Lynn, Massachusetts, just a few miles from where we are gathered here in Boston. Setting the scene for our Annual Meeting, this presentation includes the reading of Bible passages and selections from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and other writings of Mary Baker Eddy. These will be the introductory readings to open our meeting. Join us now as the sun rises in Judea . . ."

After silent prayer and the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer, Mrs. Hebenstreit invited the audience to sing Hymn 304 in the Christian Science Hymnal, "'Feed My Sheep,'" with words by the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy.
