CHEMICALIZATION

Love's stirring, purifying INFLUENCE

Upheaval in individual lives, in nations, and in the environment is neutralized by divine Love.

From the July 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, I used to have fun mixing two chemicals in a test tube and watching them bubble and foam. But in later years, when I was doing some household cleaning and used two different products without reading the labels, the violent reaction and gas weren't so much fun! I not only learned a lesson in wisdom; I saw an example of reaction between antagonistic substances.

It's important to understand that a similar reaction can occur between people and even between characteristics within oneself when materialistic elements of thought are stirred up and destroyed by the purifying power of God, divine Truth. In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy described the reaction this way: "What I term chemicalization is the upheaval produced when immortal Truth is destroying erroneous mortal belief." Science and Health, p. 401.

God's great goodness, the action of infinite Truth and Love, stirs, uncovers, and destroys its supposed opposite. The process might be quiet or agitated. But it will be sure, because the healing, transforming purpose of Love is always irresistible. A knowledge of chemicalization is needed to understand Christian healing and even many phenomena taking place in the world today.
