I HAD TO MAKE an important decision about my career. The decision would have a major impact, not only on me but on my family.
Listing all the pros and cons, I began reasoning. But for every affirmative reason to go forward in one direction, a negative one would pop up to make me retreat and reconsider. This reminded me of a toy our children played with when they were small. It was a little engine that would move forward until it ran into an obstacle, then back up and move in a different direction until another bump changed its course. It would make no progress at all but repeat the procedure until someone turned off the switch or the battery ran down.
No question about it, my "battery" was running down.
