For many years I suffered from a back injury. While moving some heavy boxes of paper one day at work, I felt a shooting pain in my lower back. Because it was work related, I was sent to therapy, including chiropractic adjustment, but this provided only temporary relief. As time went on, I just accepted the pain as a permanent part of my life.
I had been attending a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and had had some healings, but I knew little about how healing really occurs using Christian Science. I decided that taking a class in Christian Science would help me learn how to rely on God. During the time between "signing up" and the beginning of class, I had another severe bout of back pain. I called my soon-to-be teacher and requested Christian Science treatment. She immediately began calming my fear, which had taken form as my being discouraged about ever being healed. She helped me shed all the mental baggage of injury, chronic pain, and so forth. I began to see that since I am a perfect idea of God, this injury could not persist.
Over the next few weeks, I made some slow but steady progress. As class time neared, I was feeling better but not completely right. During class, as I was learning how to give Christian Science treatment, I took the opportunity to make a "last stand" for truth, and I knew that truth must win.
