The Worldwide 2003 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church & Conference was held in June—but you can still hear the echo. Rippling through the universe is a message as old as time. For me, three words sum it up: Help your neighbor.
It's a concept I'd been wrestling with a lot since two Septembers ago, asking myself what it means to be a good Samaritan today. In Jesus' famous parable, See Luke 10:25–37 . a Samaritan stops to help a man in distress—two other travelers hadn't stopped—and provides physical assistance and companionship. So I'd been wondering, How does the good Samaritan's neighborly spirit translate to today's post-9/11 world?
There are countless answers, I've decided, and all are important to make the world better. But this three-day, groundbreaking, spirituality conference reminded me and other people, in Boston and Berlin or watching on the Internet, representing 60 countries, of one that's special.
