Treasurer's Report

From the September 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

OVERSEEING THE FINANCES of The Mother Church, I have many opportunities to pray about financial challenges facing the world. Today, millions of people worldwide have financial concerns. Many businesses and governments urgently need financial stability. And rising healthcare costs have heightened the search for answers to health issues.

At the same time, more than ever, people are seeking and demanding spiritual answers to challenges today. All of us are needed to respond to these demands with the Science of Christ—the message of hope and healing in Science and Health. How big should our response be? It will be as big as our concept of what divine Science can accomplish in this age.

Mary Baker Eddy understood the immense worth of the Science she discovered. And her life was all about responding to the needs of others. Yet, along her spiritual journey she had a pressing need for financial security. She struggled to make ends meet, from young adulthood to the early years of writing Science and Health and establishing the Cause of Christian Science.
