From the February 2007 issue of The Christian Science Journal

OUR PATHS NEVER CROSSED. We were on different journeys, had different timetables. But I marvel when I consider how much she changed my life. Because what happened in her time continues to bless me in mine.

A bit over a century ago, a young girl who would later be known as Mrs. Voney, had a love of God and a devotion to a prayer-based life rooted in Christian Science. By the time she reached her teens, this girl actively practiced spiritual healing. Before too long, she started advertisting in this magazine as a Christian Science practitioner. Time passed. Her healing work expanded.

A few years later, a child was run over by a truck. People carried her crumpled form into a nearby house. Someone contacted Mrs. Voney, who quickly made it to the location. Prayer, suffused with this Christlike love, flooded the scene. Healing followed. The girl, who decades later would be my mother-in-law, recovered rapidly with no lingering ill effects.
