WMD=WORLD MOST DEAR

From the February 2007 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Be still, and know that I am God.—Psalm 46:10

THE CAPACITY WITHIN PEOPLE TO DO GOOD can sometimes take one's breath away. Just think of the last time you saw a young person caring tenderly for an elderly relative, or caught the spirit of a community rallying together to help victims of a disaster, or looked at the fact of a mother holding her newborn.

Yet, one look around us quickly shows that the human family does not always live in peace and harmony. The same face that began life looking into a mother's loving eyes can learn to harbor intense hatred of certain people and cultures. In extreme instances, this hatred can be fanned to the point that it will pursue any and every means of obtaining and using weapons capable of inflicting the greatest injury to the greatest number.
