FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 18 YEARS, teachers of Christian Science from all over the world met in Boston for a family gathering. Discussion groups, panels, and just warm connecting—or reconnecting—with friends and classmates filled two days in an unseasonably mild November in 2006. One of the teachers attending offered the following first-hand account of the meeting. As this short article makes clear, the gathering was more than a conference, more than an update of activities. Rather, it was a joining together of humble, devoted followers of the teachers of Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy—all dedicated to sharing the message of the healing Christ with the world.
OCCASIONALLY, the Journal puts "on record" events that are relevant to the activities and progress of the worldwide Church of Christ, Scientist (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353). One of these was a meeting of teachers of Christian Science from all over the world last November 17 and 18, sponsored by the Christian Science Board of Education. Here is an excerpt from its invitation:
"Whether we are lifelong friends, or brand-new ones, we all share a common bond: our love for Mrs. Eddy and Christian Science. It is the purpose of this meeting to help us pause long enough to acknowledge her ever-present leadership and guidance, and our commitment to follow that leadership."
