Testimonies of Healing

No space where God is not

From the December 2013 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Is any condition or circumstance beyond the reach of Christian Science treatment? The records of Jesus’ healing works in the Gospels and of Mary Baker Eddy’s healing works in her writings say, “No.” Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy confirms: “Christian Science heals organic disease as surely as it heals what is called functional, for it requires only a fuller understanding of the divine Principle of Christian Science to demonstrate the higher rule” (p. 162).

The unlimited healing reach of this Science includes all things dental, too, as I experienced recently. Aside from a childhood incident in which the top portion of a permanent tooth broke off and was capped by a skilled dentist, there have been no dental issues for me. But into my eighth decade came a sort of jaw readjustment, which resulted in a section of lower teeth being squeezed and pressured. Some teeth loosened, first mildly, then more severely.

And so I redoubled mental efforts to grasp my completeness as an idea of infinite good, God. “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee” (Jeremiah 1:5) spoke to me of my original and true existence as an idea of Spirit, and Genesis proclaimed that “God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (1:31). Though I didn’t see immediate resolution, I was at ease, knowing that spiritual truth is ongoing. Given the continuing awareness of the loose teeth—particularly when eating meals—I was constantly engaged in mental denials that matter or material laws could countermand God’s work. A wonderful endeavor, by the way!

One day when I was at a kitchen counter preparing a meal, a loose tooth came out. Brushing my teeth a few days later, a second large tooth came out. Now I had a couple of sizeable gaps in my lower teeth line. Again, I was at ease, eager to see the resolution through God, Spirit.

In the span of a few weeks, the gap along the side gum closed nicely. Discomfort that had accompanied the pressuring and squeezing of teeth was gone. Other teeth that had been a little loose retightened. Functionally, and in appearance, my mouth returned to normal, and remains so.

I am very thankful for the Science that allows me—and each individual—to care with confidence and success for our well-being. Indeed, the “preventive and curative arts belong emphatically to Christian Science” (Science and Health, p. 369). Physical healing accomplished through spiritual, scientific, mental work has the wonderful bonus of elevating consciousness to accept and embrace more of the truth of Life, and life in Truth.

The experiences and teachings of the prophets and Christ Jesus in the Bible, and Mary Baker Eddy’s labor of love in discovering and recording for all mankind the Science of Spirit—these compel us each to cast away whatever blockage there may be and immerse ourselves in the blessings of Christian Science.
