A contagion of good

From the April 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Yesterday I received a phone call from someone who had a heavy cold and told me that she had identified the “epicenter” of this illness at her job. This got me to thinking about man’s real, spiritual center as the child of God. In the Bible we read, “In him we live, and move, and have our being; … For we are also his offspring” (Acts 17:28). Since God, good, is all and created all, He is the only center and source of all that exists. There is no room for anything unlike good—and certainly no epicenter of evil—in divine Mind.

But how do I put this truth into practice?

In Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, Mary Baker Eddy states, referring to God, “Pure Mind gives out an atmosphere that heals and saves” (p. 260). Our role in demonstrating the ever-presence of divine Mind is to embody qualities derived from Mind—the fearlessness to know that we live with divine protection each day and the decisiveness to acknowledge that man’s oneness with God applies to each of His children. In daily affirmation, we see each individual’s perfect, indestructible relationship to our Father-Mother God. Refusing to accept illness as real for ourselves or others, we help free our friends, co-workers, and acquaintances from the world beliefs of contagion.
