One of the final instructions Jesus gave to one of his followers was: “Feed my sheep” (John 21:17). He was asking for his work of healing to be continued—to show others God’s great love for them.
And that’s what his disciples did. An example of Jesus’ followers feeding sheep is when several students of Paul prayed for him after he was stoned and left for dead (see Acts 14:19, 20). The Bible shares that as these early Christians “stood round about him, he rose up.” We don’t know, of course, what those students were thinking, but they must have been loving Paul and knowing something of the spiritual fact that Life is eternal.
That’s what feeding sheep is all about: loving others enough to share what is true about God and about His loving presence in their daily lives.
