Horse’s eye healed

From the August 2022 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Some years ago, our family decided to purchase an older horse so my husband at the time (not my current husband) could join the children and me on rides. The owner planned to bring him to us on a Saturday, but when Saturday morning came around, he called to let us know that the horse had a serious eye infection. A veterinarian had come every day that week to inject the eye with medication. Because of this, the owner didn’t think he should bring him over. I was concerned that the sale would fall through completely, and asked him to bring the horse anyway. The owner was willing, and offered to pay for the home visits and medical treatments from the vet.

Although the vet came regularly to inject the horse’s eye, there was no improvement in the condition. After a few days I asked my husband, who was not a student of Christian Science, if I could pray for the horse instead. He had witnessed Christian Science healings in our family, so he consented to this.

We canceled the vet’s visits, and I began praying with spiritual ideas from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy each day. I especially loved Mrs. Eddy’s statement, “All of God’s creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible” (p. 514). I knew it was important to see the horse as an idea of God, loved and cared for by his divine Father-Mother, and to affirm that health and well-being are certain for every one of God’s creations.
