Church and the salvation of humanity

From the January 2024 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Church is a big game-changer. It has helped me broaden my scope, pray more effectively, and experience and witness more healings. I got a taste of this when I first started attending church services as a college student. After a particularly rough day, I took a break to attend a testimony meeting, which included scriptural readings and sharing testimonies of healing and spiritual ideas. During a moment of silent prayer, I joined in praying for everyone there. The stress and headache I had disappeared, and I felt more of good going forward.

Recognizing the universal presence of God, and embracing the spirit of that Love, we find the consciousness that brings a new experience, based more on infinite Mind, Soul, divine Love. With this larger sense of God, we see humanity being saved from its troubles. For this reason we may ask these questions: Oh infinite, good God, how do we see You expressed more in us, and not so much us in us? How do we gain the consciousness of You that leads us away from the problematic, materialistic sense of self to find You, the great divine Spirit, Love, expressed in wonderful ways? How does church become more than a group of nice people interested in personal benefit and being with friends, and so become part of a movement of thought forwarding the salvation of humanity?

I feel that one response to these questions could be something like: “God is our source, our Life, our Mind. And when we work at thinking and living, including collectively, on this basis, it means great blessings moving forward for everyone.”
