In an editorial in the Christian Science Sentinel dated May 1, 2023, the author speaks of stillness and how, in busy contemporary life, many people turn to prayer for calm grounding (Mary Beattie, “The value of stillness”). She writes, “Opening up to a quiet fount of spiritual ideas stills thought that is fearful, muddled, or self-focused and leads to healing.” Quoting “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalms 46:10) from the Bible, the author shares the story of Jesus being in a storm-tossed boat with his disciples, who were fearful (see Matthew 8:23–27). But Jesus was serenely calm, and soon, both the disciples’ fear and the ocean waves were stilled.
I have had two experiences, while on separate vacations, where I prayed for direction and heard God’s “still, small voice” guiding me.
In a moment of clarity, the God-inspired angel thought came to me to “be still.”
