I had to be out of my house in less than two weeks, but the rents in the area had skyrocketed, and when I found another possible place, I was told that forty other prospective tenants had applied for it. I am single and self-employed, and live in a military community where landlords prefer families with a regular paycheck. I also have two cats, which many landlords don’t permit.
Despite the gloomy forecast, I looked to God, who supplies all our needs. Through my study of Christian Science, I am learning that God’s universe is ordered in perfect harmony and we each have our own unique place that no one else can fill. Trusting that God was guiding my future landlord, the other tenants, and me in a way that would bless everyone, I left the details to Him.
Instead of anxiously searching for another house, I focused on the tasks at hand—packing, cleaning, painting, and preparing to move out by the end of the month. My daily prayer was, “God, what do You want me to do now?” And then I would stay quiet and listen. Sometimes inspiration came quickly; other times it took longer.
