CHURCH MEMBERSHIP AND INDIVIDUAL PROGRESS The following statement came to us from one of our new members: "Experiences have proved overwhelmingly to me the vital part that membership in The Mother Church plays in an individual's progress from sense to Soul!" This member evidently realized that affiliation with The Mother Church is one of the footsteps referred to on page 253 (lines 32-2) of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "The divine demand, 'Be ye therefore perfect,' is scientific, and the human footsteps leading to perfection are indispensable. " Twice each year applicants are admitted to membership by The Christian Science Board of Directors (see Manual, Art.

[As published in the Christian Science Sentinel , January 10, 1948] ANNOUNCEMENT The Christian Science Publishing Society has continued to experience the heavy increases in wage, paper, and other production costs which are still general in the publishing industry, and must now reluctantly make effective its first increase in the subscription rate of the Christian Science Quarterly in many years. Our readers are familiar with the increases which have been made effective generally by various periodicals in recent months.
divider In view of the steady expansion of the use of the radio, including The Mother Church religious broadcasts and "The Christian Science Monitor Views the News," and the constant demand for further extension in this field of activity, The Mother Church has established a Radio Fund which will provide individual Christian Scientists, branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science Societies an opportunity to participate in this work by contributing to the Fund. ITEM OF INTEREST [As published in the Christian Science Sentinel, August 5, 1939, and November 8, 1947] Wednesday Evening Meetings It may be of interest to Readers in branch churches to know that at the Wednesday evening meetings held in The Mother Church, the First Reader arranges his Bible readings so as to include references from not more than four separate books of the Bible, and from Science and Health not more than ten correlative passages, and fewer when possible. The actual reading of these selections occupies all together about ten minutes.

Hering.
