The Christian Science Sentinel was established by Mary Baker Eddy ".
The man who wrote the following account first saw a copy of Science and Health as a child when his family was settling his grandfather's estate. He kept it as a memento of his grandparents.
"Your broadcasts astounded me. I was shaken and plunged deep into thought.
"When I was seventeen, I ran into problems of morality. I asked myself, 'Do I really believe in Christian Science enough to devote my life to the Cause that in my heart I believe in?' I started praying every day, living what truth is.
To better serve the needs of each field, beginning this year, the following editions of The Herald of Christian Science will be published in their own language exclusively: Danish Dutch Greek Indonesian Italian Japanese Norwegian Swedish Readers may be interested to know that when the German Herald was introduced by Mary Baker Eddy it appeared in the German language only. English was not included until 1918.
To learn more about Christian Science If you are reading the Journal for the first time and would like to find out more about the teachings of Christian Science, Christian Scientists in your area warmly invite you to attend church services and use the local Reading Room. Services are held on Sunday and are based on readings from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
In the Manual of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy provides for the continuity of her teaching through the establishment of the Board of Education. Article XXIX, Section 2 , states: "Loyal Christian Scientists' pupils who so desire may apply to the Board of Education for instruction; and if they have practised Christian Science healing successfully three years and will furnish evidence of their eligibility therefor, they are eligible to enter the Normal class.
"I've always read the Bible and believed in God, but never in my life had I the least bit of understanding and conviction as I have gained today through Science and Health. I am grateful to Mary Baker Eddy and to God and His idea, the Christ.
On December 19, 1894, Mary Baker Eddy ordained as pastor of The Mother Church, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. In April 1895 the ordination of these books was expanded to include all branch churches.
Admission of new members to The Mother Church takes place twice each year, on the Friday before the first Sunday in June, and on the first Friday in November. At the November 1993 admission, The Christian Science Board of Directors elected into membership individuals from forty-four countries.
