Testimonies of Healing
I became interested in Christian Science about eleven years ago, and at that time I was sick and discouraged, without hope of ever regaining my health. I had tried everything suggested by physicians, had submitted to a surgical operation, and was no better.
It is my desire to bring before the public what Christian Science has meant to me for the last eighteen years. When it was presented to me I was quite young, having had very little experience.
My attention was first called to Christian Science in 1905, at which time I attended my first Wednesday evening testimony meeting. The only testimony of that evening which I recall was of the healing of cancer, given in a simple, sincere manner which left no doubt as to its truthfulness.
Christian Science has been our only physician for over twenty years. In that time we have had many demonstrations.
Christian Science has been my only physician for the past eight years. My first healing, from an internal abscess, was accomplished in ten days.
I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of a near relative, which brought the entire family into Christian Science. For this I am truly grateful.
God had always seemed a close, living, and loving reality to me, and yet totally unavailable. When a student of Christian Science told me that this Science would help me to know more about God, I felt that my prayer to be shown the way had been answered, and began at once to study the Lesson-Sermons, and to attend the church services and lectures.
My attention was first attracted to Christian Science in the early part of 1909 through the almost instantaneous restoration to health and harmony of a very dear friend, who had reached what seemed to the material senses a hopeless state through typhoid and pneumonia. Very soon after witnessing this healing I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest.
Some years ago I had been an invalid for two or three years from an illness known as Meniere's disease, and my life at that time was one of wretchedness and great fear. I had had no relief from the treatment of many doctors and specialists whose advice I had sought.
When I first knew of Christian Science, I was in great need. I had what was called by the doctors a very bad case of blood poisoning.
