Testimonies of Healing
With the help of a Christian Science practitioner I was healed of smoking, drinking, and the use of profanity the second week after I began treatment. The Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, began to unfold their treasures to me; that is, the spiritual significance of incidents and sayings was revealed, showing me the purpose and ultimate of life as spiritual, not material.
One winter day I went with my little grandson to one of the parks of the city, where he joined fully a hundred boys and girls who were coasting. The coasting field was down the incline of a steep bank, out over at least a hundred yards of level ground, to a ten-foot terrace, at the bottom of which was an iron fence.
The words from Scripture, "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword," were proved to me when, a short while ago, I received a very great physical healing. Having undergone two major operations, followed by intense suffering for several months, I was brought home from the hospital in a very emaciated condition.
Christian Science came into my life at a time when I was utterly discouraged, and in such a weakened condition that I was not able to be out of bed all day at a time. My physician had done all for me that he could do, and said that I would have to undergo an operation before I would have relief.
With deep gratitude I desire to give a testimony of the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. A Sentinel was sent to me by a friend to see if I could find anything in it that would help another in my home.
Christian Science is more to me than words can express. I began reading the literature with the view of helping a member of my family, thinking at the time I did not need it; but I soon found out I did.
In 1918 my husband and I were spending the winter in St. Louis, Missouri.
When I first became interested in Christian Science, it was not because I wanted physical healing, but because I was dissatisfied and wanted a better understanding of God; and to my great delight I soon found joy and peace, far beyond my expectations. In the winter of 1919, I was assisting in a large municipal kitchen fitted out with gas ranges, when I came in contact with a gas explosion from one of them.
To me Christian Science means progress. What I am most thankful for is that in studying Christian Science we are forced to work out our own salvation, because I can see that if this were not so, I should still be leaning on a broken reed, instead of on the truth that makes us free, which is that God is All-in-all.
I am grateful for the joy and blessings received from God through the correct understanding of Him as divine Mind, as taught in Christian Science. Three years ago I took up the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, being prompted to do so for physical healing; and I am most thankful for the health I now enjoy.
