Testimonies of Healing
It is just ten years since I first investigated Christian Science and after a few months' earnest study was convinced that this system of ethics and religion was not merely another of the numerous creeds and dogmas, but the actual law of God, operative and to be understood and obeyed. During the first few months all desire to smoke completely left me, and has never returned.
The privilege of having Christian Science in the home has been mine since childhood. My mother resorted to it when her religion, and medical and mental treatment as well, failed to comfort her in a deep sorrow.
I have been studying Christian Science for a little over two years. In this short time I have many things for which to be grateful.
I became interested in Christian Science several years ago through my sister's being healed of chronic asthma, and have found it a most helpful and practical religion. I have experienced many proofs of its healing power.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I tell of the great debt I owe to Christian Science. After the loss of my mother at an early age, I lived for several years under conditions not well adapted to mold a strong-willed, maturing mind.
For more than twelve years I taxed the endurance of the various members of my family with my ill health; and finding the severe climate of Montana during the last four years of this time a serious trial, I came to California, hoping the milder climate would prove beneficial. Soon afterward I awakened one morning feeling very ill.
Although I am young in Christian Science and in years, I have, through the loving help of my mother, overcome many of the ailments of childhood. I will tell one or two that stand out in my memory.
My gratitude for Christian Science knows no bounds. By nature logical, I could find no satisfaction in mere theories about religion which I could not personally prove; so it was only about ten years ago that I found the solution to the religious problem in the teachings of Christian Science,—a practical, demonstrable religion, applicable to the problems of our daily life.
With deep gratitude for all the good which I have received through Christian Science, I wish to give my testimony. For twenty-five years I had been a sufferer from pain in the back.
The testimonies in The Christian Science Journal and Sentinel have been such a help to me that I feel I should like to tell of the wonderful way we were helped when our little boy seemed very ill. One night, after going to bed in the best of spirits, he suddenly began to cry, and said he had terrible pains in his head.
