Testimonies of Healing
It has been my desire for some time to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. Last fall (1921), while driving through a field in a buggy with my husband and three little girls, we ran over a corn planter, which was hidden by weeds.
As a young girl I liked very much to read the Bible, especially the New Testament, for I loved and reverenced the character of Jesus. There were many passages, however, which aroused a great sense of fear, as for instance those that referred to hell and eternal damnation.
I wish to express gratitude, through the Christian Science periodicals, for a healing which came to me recently by means of the power of Truth, as set forth in Christian Science. In some manner, while lifting heavy weights, I injured my back, apparently straining the muscles at the hip joints.
I feel that the time has arrived for me to add mine to the numerous testimonies of blessings derived from Christian Science. Up to the age of fifty years I had lived a self-satisfied life, thinking that I knew all that was necessary, religiously and otherwise.
It gives me great pleasure to express my gratitude for the benefits I have received in Christian Science. About three years ago, I had a beautiful healing of which I should like to write.
I too wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science. From the first year of my life I suffered from asthma, which grew worse yearly.
Many years ago, when trouble and sorrow seemed my only companions, and life not worth living, Christian Science was presented to me by a dear relative. Little did I dream then that it would change my whole outlook on life, and make me happy; but through the years that have followed, I have proved what Paul says: "A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
The years that I have been a student of Christian Science have been the happiest years of my life. Physical disturbances, such as bowel trouble, skin disease, burns, have been overcome by the power of Truth, as also has mental distress, manifesting itself in fear, lack of supply, failure of plans.
In 1906, after many years of suffering and semi-invalidism, a friend asked me to try Christian Science. My daughter bought "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, also a Christian Science Quarterly for me; and I read the book and studied the Lesson-Sermons faithfully.
For many years I have lived on the island of Java; and three years ago, previous to leaving the East Indies for Holland, I planned to take a trip into the interior with a friend. A few weeks before our departure, I was seized with a quartan fever, which is a species of malaria that is much dreaded in the East Indies, and which recurs every three days.
