Testimonies of Healing
For many years I have lived on the island of Java; and three years ago, previous to leaving the East Indies for Holland, I planned to take a trip into the interior with a friend. A few weeks before our departure, I was seized with a quartan fever, which is a species of malaria that is much dreaded in the East Indies, and which recurs every three days.
It does not seem possible for me to express in words my profound gratitude for what Christian Science means to me. I have indeed found it to be the "pearl of great price.
In the twelve years that I have been a student of Christian Science it has proved itself to me to be the law of God in the working out of human problems,—inexorable toward evil, but ineffable love to my daily needs. Through close contact with a so-called contagious disease named "itch" my daughter and I let its ugly pictures into our thought, and these soon manifested themselves on our bodies.
For years I was afflicted with chronic sick headaches. I was in the theatrical profession.
" The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. " When a dear friend told me of the light that had shone for him through the revelation of Truth in Christian Science, I immediately became aware that a long-felt want in my own life had been supplied.
I am very grateful for the many blessings I have received through the healing influence of Christian Science, which has been our only physician for twenty years. I did not take up the study of Christian Science through the physical healing of myself; my attention was called to it through the healing of my wife and my daughter.
With the hope that some one may be benefited, as I have been, by the study and application of Christian Science, as given to us by Mary Baker Eddy in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I submit the following experience. I did not take up the study of Christian Science because of any physical healing, but because it illumined the Scriptures for me, showing how the truth taught by our Master was again being demonstrated through the practice of Christian Science in overcoming sin and healing the sick.
Christian Science has meant so much to me during the past eight years that I should like to express my gratitude and appreciation for all that it has done for me. During the so-called influenza epidemic of 1918 this trouble attacked me.
When my daughter was in the lower grades in the public school, medical inspection of schools was started in our city. A visiting nurse came periodically to the school, and, although I had obtained permission from the principal that my children be exempt from such examinations, in an unguarded moment my daughter was examined, and was told that she had adenoids and diseased tonsils.
This is to say that the above is a true and correct statement of the experience through which I went; and I wish to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for Christian Science. I should not know how to meet the problems of life without the knowledge which Christian Science has brought to me,—that God, good, is the only power and presence.
