Testimonies of Healing
My four-year-old daughter had every evidence of having appendicitis, and although she had the help of a Christian Science practitioner for ten days, she did not improve much; however, the pain was eased and she did not suffer greatly. My husband, not being a student of Christian Science, began to feel that he would like the advice of a physician.
Mine was a case of tuberculosis of the lungs, brought about, probably, by fear and worry over my sister's death from the same trouble. Before this time, I had no idea that my usual good health could be menaced from this source, or that fear was seemingly so powerful.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. " Not in some ways, but "in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
The many beautiful articles and testimonies published in the Christian Science periodicals have been, and are, a daily inspiration to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity of expressing my love to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of this wonderful religion that teaches us how to free ourselves and others from sickness and sin.
In loving gratitude to God, I wish to acknowledge the great help received through the faithful work of a Christian Science practitioner at the birth of my baby, now eleven months old. Through the loving help of a practitioner, lumbago, measles, earache, and kidney trouble which had been troublesome for years, have also been healed.
Eight years ago, as my husband was returning from business, he fell into a coma which lasted two nights and a day. I at once sent for a physician, in order to be informed regarding this illness.
Christian Science was first brought to my notice in the year 1912, while a probationer nurse in a hospital. For some time I was very antagonistic towards what I thought Christian Science to be, until I heard of a friend's healing of a so-called incurable disease.
It is with a heart full of joy and gladness that I take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me during the past thirteen years. The Psalmist sang, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.
When I was led to seek help in Christian Science, I was suffering from what the two doctors who examined me for the army had diagnosed as heart trouble. I had been under treatment with one of them for a few months; and while I appreciated his honest efforts to help me, he could not offer me positive hope of recovery.
I can truly say with the Psalmist: "O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.
