Testimonies of Healing

A deep sense of gratitude and joy prompts me to tell of the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science by way of deliverance from sickness of many years' standing. I was suffering greatly from chronic stomach disorder and other complications.

I turned to Christian Science over twenty years ago to find relief from a distressing disease of the eyeballs. I had had treatment for seven years from several doctors, but they could give me no permanent relief.

Through Christian Science I have found that God is indeed "a very present help in trouble. " One day in the summer of 1912 I was out on the porch, and in turning around quickly to pick up something, I lost my balance and fell, twisting my ankle in such a way that it sounded as if the muscles were being torn asunder, and the cracking sound continued until I struck the hard sidewalk full length.

Some time ago I had such a convincing proof of the protecting power of divine Love that I esteem it a duty as well as a privilege to give my experience to the field. I was passing the evening with some friends, and when I started for home, my host accompanied me.

About six years ago I was taken ill and suffered two years with what seven doctors called heart disease. The doctors did all they could for me, but I got very little relief.

Five years have passed since I became interested in Christian Science. Judging by appearances, which is contrary to Jesus' counsel, I was in a very serious condition, mentally and physically, and worse than all, I had grown skeptical.

We are taught in Christian Science that gratitude is a very important feature, and that showing our gratitude for the blessings already received, enables us to receive more. I want to show my sincere gratitude by the giving of this testimony of the many demonstrations we have had in the raising of our baby.

I would like to give my testimony of healing for the encouragement of other seekers after Truth. Fourteen years ago the way was opened to me by the reading of a copy of The Christian Science Journal which a neighbor gave me, and the explanations in this periodical as to the life and mission of Jesus were so satisfactory to me that I accepted them unhesitatingly as true teaching.

As a boy I was reared in a church of which the late Phillips Brooks was then rector. When I grew older, I drifted to another church and continued to worship there until after my marriage, when domestic and business cares seemed to leave but little time for church association.

When the subject of Christian Science was first presented to me twenty-six years ago, I had been suffering from stomach trouble and also from another functional disorder of a nature serious enough to cause my family considerable alarm. Everything I ate brought pain, even the one apple a day to which I had finally reduced my diet.
