Testimonies of Healing
IT is with great pleasure that I give my testimony of healing. I came to Christian Science as a last resort, hoping, and praying that I might in some way escape from what seemed sure death, as I had been suffering for a long time from tubercular disease of the hip.
Any one who has been afflicted with that awful false appetite for strong drink can perhaps understand my thankfulness to Mrs. Eddy and her loyal followers for the freedom from this drink bondage which I now enjoy.
For several years I was a great sufferer physically and mentally. I had a number of ailments, among them being very severe stomach trouble.
From infancy I was considered of delicate constitution, and rheumatism, attacks of throat trouble, headaches, and an extremely nervous disposition furnished a program for years which was anything but pleasant. My first experience with Christian Science was twelve years ago, while having a severe attack of throat trouble.
In February, 1907, I read in a current magazine an article on Christian Science, in which the author made no attempt to treat this infinite theme, but sought, rather, to awaken in the mind of the reader an unbiased apprehension in the face of the world's prejudicial attitude toward it. These few words so aroused my sense of justice, and the editor's note concerning the recent healing of the author through Christian Science treatment appealed so strongly to my own suffering sense, that I immediately decided to investigate the subject.
I rejoice in the blessed truth of Christian Science, and I have had many proofs of its healing Principle. Some time ago I fell down the cellar stairs, striking on my Back, below the shoulder-blade, in such a way that I could scarcely breathe; but I at once declared the truth, knowing that God is a present help, and I soon felt better, so that I was able to get upstairs with my husband's help.
With the hope that it may be of help or encouragement to others, I gladly give my testimony to what Christian Science has done for me. It was over four years ago that I awoke one morning to find that I was unable to make myself understood, and deprived of the power to raise myself from the bed.
My life and all I am today I owe to Christian Science. Human language is inadequate to express my gratitude for what it has done for me! At the age of eighteen years I was stricken with what is considered an incurable disease of the kidneys, in its most malignant form.
Christian Science came to me in the hour of my greatest need, when all material means had failed to give me permanent relief. Grief at the loss of my only child, pain from physical suffering, and a great fear of death had seemed to obscure the last ray of light; all was dark, and I almost lost faith in the God I had tried to love and serve.
Two years ago I was a discouraged, hopeless invalid, as physicians had declared I was incurable. Severe lung and heart trouble had bound me until I was without hope, and my religion had ceased to comfort me.
