Testimonies of Healing

In gratitude to God for perfect health, after having been raised by Him, through Christian Science, from what I and my physicians and friends supposed to be my deathbed, I wish to give, through the Journal, the following facts: In July, 1905, while living in Wichita, Kan. , I was taken severely ill with what the physician pronounced inflammation of the bowels.

It is five years since I became an adherent of Christian Science, and during that time it has been proved to me that the Principle of Christian Science is an ever-present help, a deliverer from all troubles. We have experienced many glorious demonstrations in our family, consisting of myself and husband and four children.

I HAVE long felt that I must express my gratitude for Christian Science. I have indeed found it to be the "sweetest story ever told," and I never grow tired of listening to it.

Almost ten years' experience in Christian Science has brought me innumerable proofs of the efficacy of the healing power of Truth, as well as many other blessings, for which I am most grateful, and my heart goes out in thanksgiving for a very recent experience. Before learning of Christian Science I had often heard my father say he would rather die than go to a dentist, and I seemed to have inherited this tendency.

I feel it is a great privilege to tell of my healing in Christian Science. After many years of invalidism and suffering I was healed of heart disease, female trouble, and nervous breakdown, after having tried many physicians and newly discovered remedies without benefit or relief.

Some time ago I was taken with severe pain in the abdominal region, caused, the physician said, by a disorder of the liver which for years had given me much inconvenience. My attention was drawn by a friend to the great work done in Christian Science, and I immediately applied to a practitioner in Basel.

Last November my wife was taken ill with a severe liver complaint and suffered terrible pain. Although for quite a while we followed closely the prescriptions of both physicians in attendance, she did not improve, but the pains rather grew worse.

Having successfully tried Christian Science treatment for my little boy, who had a skin disease about eighteen months ago, we concluded to give it as fair a chance when my baby was born in August, 1908. I employed a Christian Science practitioner of this city, but did not engage a doctor at all, believing it unnecessary; and so it proved.

It was in the year 1898 that I first became interested in Christian Science healing, when my daughter wrote me from Missoula that it had helped her to walk, she having been unable to stand on her feet for nearly two years after an operation at the hospital. I did not begin to study it in earnest, however, until three years ago, when I began to have the Lessons and to read Science and Health, which I read through six times.

Having taken a post-graduate course in the school of suffering, both mental and physical, it is with deep gratitude that I give the testimony of my healing in Christian Science. I had always believed in a higher power, but the thought of God filled me with dread.
