Testimonies of Healing
I am very grateful to God for the loving protection and guidance which have come to me in fulfillment of these words in Hymn No. 136 of the Christian Science Hymnal: Thy presence ever goes with me And Thou dost give me peace.
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. " These words from Psalm 19 express well my thoughts as I endeavor to put into words my gratitude for Christian Science, for all that I have I attribute to my understanding of it.
In Birmingham, Alabama, early in the year 1901, Christian Science found its way into our home through a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. A friend presented this book to my mother and urged her to read it.
The turning point in my life as a Christian Scientist came when I was healed of a sense of fear so great that it had manifested itself in alarming physical symptoms. At one point I felt I might pass on, not so much from physical discomfort as from the tenacity of this aggressive suggestion of fear which seemed to numb my thinking to the truths of God and man.
Christian Science has been meaningful and precious to me since girlhood when I had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School. There I learned early to look to God for healing, and healings have been many.
I am particularly grateful for a healing one of our daughters received nearly four years ago when she was struck by a car and thrown across the road when crossing a busy thoroughfare. My wife and I immediately took her home, made her comfortable in bed, and then both individually commenced prayerful metaphysical work.
My parents became interested in Christian Science in 1907, and I was privileged to attend a Christian Science Sunday School at intervals for several years. I am grateful for that opportunity, because the seed of Truth was embedded so firmly in my consciousness that I have never doubted the healing and saving power of Science.
Christian Science came to our family over sixty years ago through my father's healing of stomach trouble. Shortly after my mother and he were married, Mother became a semi-invalid and spent several years in a sanatorium either bedridden or in a wheelchair.
I was introduced to Christian Science by the man who later became my husband. After I had studied Science for some time, it became evident to me that I had found the security for which I had searched.
My pearl of great price is the revelation of Truth brought to me through a wonderful healing which came about simply by my reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I was enrolled in an orthodox Sunday School by a loving and devoted mother, who believed in God and in prayer.
