During the years of the depression my mother became interested in Christian Science and enrolled me as a teen-ager in the Sunday School, an act which transformed my entire way of life. I had been considered a sickly child, suffering often from headaches, chronic hives, stomach upsets, a skin infection, and other assorted ills. However, as my fear subsided and my understanding increased, these ailments disappeared, and I learned to acknowledge health as the normal state of spiritual consciousness.
At this time my homelife was very inharmonious, with much evidence of lack, strife, and unhappiness. I am unceasingly grateful for the compassionate interest and encouragement continually expressed over the years by the Sunday School superintendents and teachers, which kept me in my right place each Sunday despite the lack of interest of my family.
A few months after beginning the study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I was healed of poor eyesight, and the school nurse's written advice to my parents that I must wear glasses was annulled following a further eye examination.
