Communicating with God

From the January 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mankind have long understood the importance of rapid and reliable communication between individuals and nations and have tried systematically to develop it. Stage by stage, methods of communication have changed as surface mail has been partially replaced by airmail and telegraph wires by radiotelephony. Now, in international communication, objects in outer space provide almost instantaneous communication between individuals separated by vast areas of sea and land.

Communication between God and the human individual, however, follows a different mode and tempo. God always has been and is now immediately available: but only rarely has this truth been understood. Indeed, with a correct, spiritual understanding of Him, none of the world's great tragedies need have occurred. Christian Science reveals God as All, filling all space, always and invariably within reach. Consequently under all conditions, in any place, and at all times, communication with Him can be instantaneous.

But how seldom mankind realize and utilize this great spiritual truth! Although God, the source of all wisdom and knowledge, is within easier reach than the electric switch that floods the room with light, yet human beings in their attempt to communicate with God often rely on highly involved rituals.
